Thunderbird 3, piloted by astronaut Alan Tracy and co-pilot TinTin Kyrano, is a vertically launched, reusable single-stage rocket.Used for rescue missions in space and to maintain and relieve the crew of the Thunderbird 5 space station.
Powered by chemical rockets for take-off and boost, an ion drive is used for space propulsion and to accelerate Thunderbird 3 to a top speed of 40,000 Kph.
