After World War II, public transport in the Netherlands was almost completely destroyed. With a shortage of buses, used army vehicles, such as the "Austin K2 Bellewagen", were used for passenger transport. These British fire engines of the NFS were modified with wooden benches and a rear wall with boarding door. The Austin K2 was widespread in the Netherlands and served both as an emergency bus, van or as a service car for companies, and was characteristic of the period immediately after the war.
