The small M3 Stuart light tank holds an important place in the history of World War II, as it was the first American tank to be made available to British and Commonwealth troops through the Lend-Lease program - used in the North African campaign, the M3 proved to be an extremely reliable and relatively fast tank, earning the respect of British crews who quickly learned to use it to its full potential. The M3 would also be used by the Americans during their first tank-versus-tank battles of World War II, and despite being outclassed by most German tanks, it would be widely used in support and reconnaissance roles after the D-Day landings.
