M8 Greyhound 14th Armoured Division N-W Europe
The M8 was a light armored car equipped with an M6 37 mm cannon and a machine gun. The armament was centrally mounted and the engine placed in the rear. Off-road performance was not satisfactory, but there was little that could be improved. The bottom plate was reinforced because the crew was vulnerable if the vehicle drove over a landmine . In mid-1944, some vehicles received an additional machine gun against aerial targets on top of the turret. The M8 was used by American and British troops in Europe and the Far East until the end of the war.
Astonishingly, one M8 is said to have destroyed a mighty German King Tiger in December 1944, sneaking up behind it and firing three rounds of ammunition at its engine before the tiger tank's turret could turn around to target the M8.
