KDC-10s can refuel other aircraft in the air (air-to-air refuelling). This is done from their own fuel supply. The K of KDC-10 is an internationally used symbol to indicate that an aircraft is a tanker.
Air-to-air refuelling is done with the help of the RARO system (remote aerial refuelling operator). This system consists, among other things, of 5 cameras and a so-called boom. This is a narrow, 8-metre-long tank tube that can be extended from the rear of the aircraft to a maximum length of 15 metres.
