Volkswagen T1b pick-up met huif
The very first one was the Type 1 model, recognisable by the windscreen with a metal bar in the middle. Hence its nickname the 'bar bus'. It was produced from 8 March 1950 until the end 1967. For the first six years the bus was produced in Wolfsburg, after which production moved to a brand new plant in Hanover. The Microbus or Transporter had as its internal designation at Volkswagen "Type 2" (Type 1 was the Volkswagen beetle). Behind the number two then came the type of the series in question. The idea to produce a transport bus came from the Dutch importer Ben Pon. As early as 1947, he sketched the first idea for what would later become the world's most successful van.
