Solido - Porsche 935 Mobydick 24h Le Mans 1978 Schurti/Rolf Stommelen

The Porsche 935/78 in question is, as you probably already suspected by the slash in the type number, a further development of the brutal935 and therefore fits
absolutely in the category of the even crazier 917/30, the strongest racing car ever (!). It is the very last version Porsche built of the 935 and the car was developed especially for
participation in the 24 hours of Le Mans. 

With an output 750 hp (from a 3.2-liter biturbo six-cylinder boxer) at a weight of around 1,030 kg, the performance potential was at least in line with its rather bizarre appearance. 
By the way, the car achieved the mentioned power at 1.5 bar of turbo pressure, but at 1.7 bar, 850 hp was possible. Nice to mention by the way, is that the engine in this 935/78 was the first 911 block with liquid-cooled cylinder heads. 

In order to achieve the best possible aerodynamics, Porsche went completely loco as far as the body was concerned, 
including a big nose and a gigantic tail.
You can immediately see where the nickname Mobydick comes from (Moby Dick is the title of a book by Herman Melville about a moody whale). 

By the way, the 935/78 reached 366 km/h on Mulsanne Straight, thanks in part to that
streamlined body that was fitted with a delightful Martini livery.
